Dr. Mar possesses an extensive array of medical qualifications, holding board certifications in Pediatrics, Adult Psychiatry, and Child/Adolescent Psychiatry. He obtained his MD from Dartmouth Medical School and a BA from Stanford University. His postgraduate training was completed at the University of Utah’s prestigious Triple Board program.
Since 1999, Dr. Mar has dedicated his career to understanding, treating and exploring the origins of eating disorders. In 2007, he established a Partial Hospitalization Program for eating disorders and has served as its Medical Director ever since. Before his current role, Dr. Mar served as the Medical Director at the Loma Linda Behavioral Medical Center for Eating Disorders. He holds the conviction that individuals with eating disorders require comprehensive medical attention and expert therapy to address the complex biological, psychological, and social dimensions involved in these conditions. Dr. Mar’s approach emphasizes the necessity of an integrated treatment model to support recovery and well-being.
Dr. Mar has particular interests in the role of attachment and developmental trauma in eating disorders and he is actively engaged in research addressing these issues. He is a Fellow at the American Academy of Pediatrics; a Fellow at the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; and a member of the Academy of Eating Disorders (AED), the American Society of Adolescent Psychiatry, and a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist, (CEDS), International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals.
